Why are we interested in particular things and not in others?

SECRETE OF NEWS STORIES ABOUT WAR AND CAR CRASH

We are drawn towards danger on a subconscious level..

There is a difference between what you like and what you are interested in.

What you like might have a minor role in decision-making.

What you are interested in can change your life.

What are the things that really determine what we are interested in?

As humans, we are drawn towards dangers.

Violence channelised is creativity.

A person might not have a fear of quitting 9to5 but could be drawn towards the danger of wasting his potential.

Sounds whimsical.

But we gather around the fire, the most dangerous thing that can destroy forests, since the dawn of civilisation.

Humans are drawn towards danger.

The news for instance about an accident, has nothing new to offer.

It is tragic, but the story is the same every time.

Still, we pay close attention to the news reports about such misfortunes.

The same goes for the stories about wars and a leader taken down OR a big corporation tumbling after decades of successful endeavour.

It is not a coincidence that we are so fond of TV shows that feature existential crises like — Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead

It is our eccentric need to be informed about the danger and do something about it.

We particularly don’t like it, but we are interested in it.

Humans are the only creatures on the planet that use more than teeth and claws to inflict violence.

We use politics and military power to inflict pain and suffering.

Human violence is intelligent, and it has sprung from the suppression.

Incubated and channelised more systematically.

Now that we know that we are lured by the dangers, what are the aspects of danger that make us interested in a particular thing?

Change

Being close to the danger changes you.

It compels you to introspect your own fragility and vulnerability.

It changes the complexities of your thoughts into simplicity.

You are forced to look at the alarming facts of human life and abstract what is necessary.

Change is accepted and occurs in the shadow of danger.

You might think that happy and safe things also bring change to life.

It is true. But only as a polarity of danger.

The move towards safety is initiated by the danger.

Emotional Connection

Humans connect on an emotional level.

If you find a person who has gone through the same trauma as you have and has formed an understanding of life like you have, you are bound to fall in love with each other.

Communities are built around cinema, equestrian, books and whatnot.

These communities collectively agree on a point.

There is a thread of emotional connection that keeps these communities together.

But more than anything, the fear and danger of being left out.

Not finding a place to belong can be lonesome, and holds a danger of losing emotional and physical support systems in the society.

Curiosity

Na Na! Don’t ever open the box kept in the loft, I don’t want you to see what’s inside. It’s dangerous.

Aren’t you tempted to open the box?

The danger that underlines the forbidden things evokes curiosity.

We are curious about Mars, it is dangerous to go on Mars.

We are curious about what lies beneath the deepest part of the ocean floor.

It is dangerous.

We are afraid of uncertainty.

If you are been informed about what to expect, you don’t feel curious about it.

A potential danger holds an element of surprise.

What if we find something different than expected?

That sounds a game!

Challenge

Challenges are dangerous.

They question who we are. They give a glimpse of reality.

They sometimes threaten your meaning of existence.

For a mind that is conditioned to sleepwalk, challenge is dangerous.

It is not a coincidence, that a friend decided to quit a well-paying position to pursue something else.

Like Paul Gauguin became an artist, living his secured job as a Stock Broker.

Ordinary people do extraordinary stuff when they are challenged.

Magic happens when the problems of the mundane affair are replaced by better problems.

The better the problem you solve, the better the success you achieve.

The more you embrace the danger in challenges, life offers more adventures.

Take away

There has to be a takeaway from this understanding.

A significant one.

Now that you know that the danger shapes our decisions and reality in many cases — go towards the danger.

Once we understand our fascination for the danger, what can be done about it?

Take risks and dive into the unexplored arenas of life.

Dare to fail and let the failure find an unbeaten path.

Befriend the sense of eternal danger and you might find a place that has never been known to humankind.

Take a new challenge, no matter how small it is.

Perceive something that you have feared all your life. Make the ruckus.

Be ready to intentionally fail, just to understand that it is not the end.

Life goes on.

For people who stay close to the danger, who make tough decisions it goes on to be a life of a leader.
