How to appreciate art and find your originality?

To appreciate art you need to understand the process through which the artist goes through. Maybe it can be an artist you love, you admire or following for the study purpose. Looking at the work of an artist and understanding him through only one aspect of his life which is art is an appreciation. Having said that, there is more to it, the second part of the puzzle is you!

When you see a piece of art, and you label or attach it to any idea of the past you have lost the first battle to enjoy the art.To appreciate art you have to irradiate the poverty from every possible angle. And to eradicate poverty to you will have to stop nurturing poverty.

As a poverty stricken man seeks for help is the man asking for more poverty and the one who helps the man is nurturing the poverty by reading the person for being poor.. in similar fashion if you seek for external forces to make you feel something about the art, then you will always find in prison of others to who decide for you. It is nourishment to your mental poverty.

Now why not sit in front of the art or just stand if you like and look at it. You will find yourself unveiling the curtains of your own thoughts. And this can lead not only to find you the originality of the artist you are gazing at, but also your own…

And this is possible, by either embracing or rejecting the thought you are having about the artwork. First would be silly obvious. Like this is good this is bad, ugly… Then you might try to put the artwork into some ism or a cateregoried idea promoted to generalise a bunch of artwork for a bunch of individuals. This is absolutely inclined to take away the quality of the viewing experience. Like a manufactured sense of viewing at beauty. Mass production, no quality only quantity. This is why I am absolutely against reaching as many people I can. I would rather speak to 1 person and preserve the quality of the talk, than speaking to the masses and generalise the ideas by diluting what I have to say.

This is art. And what artist goes through to find the originality. He might look at several artists for study. Now he either embraces every possible idea he comes across or utterly rejects all of them. But the beauty of this process is that the only relevant, reassembling stays. The only ideas and mental images that are assimilating to your being remains constant. And as you change the expression, the manifestation of these ideas change. It always occurs in abidance with your being.

Now this process is ongoing and it takes time. And it is true with art appreciation. If you are committed enough to stand in front of the art and just look at it until all the thoughts of the past and future are exhausted or rejected and fall apart. You will come to a point where you will find something original of your own to know about the art and yourself. So original that you might not even find the word in the dictionary to express what you are feeling. And this is the very beauty of art. It moves you until you reach the unmoving centre of yourself. A place where you meet the artist, where you are not there and even the artist is not there. On one common ground where you both drink the water from the same flowing river.

But the question is, are you ready to take the journey? Not to say something and to listen for the first time. Not to see, but unsee what you have been shown for centuries. If you do, you will be born again.
