Want to stay consistent? 4 ways to stick with creative pursuit

GET PAST THE VALLEY OF DESPAIR

Consistency puts you in the top 5%

As a content creator, business person or marketer there is one thing on everybody\’s mind.

To stand out from the crowd.

You cannot be original, because originality is a myth.

Whatever you think about is already said or done in every possible way.

Then what is the key that would help you stand out?

What is the key that will help you survive in the pool of millions of fellow creators?

Everybody who is pursuing to be successful might be more talented, skilful and creative than you.

But 95% of them struggle to be consistent in their efforts to make a change in the world in which we live.

Isn’t this a good news? — Being consistent will put you in the top 5% of your competition and increase your chances to succeed.

There is an overhanging arch of a big question though, how to be consistent?

I was in the valley of Despair when I started writing on medium and everything came to hold.

I wasn’t writing, I was not able to even think about what to write about.

But then I sought help from a counsellor who specialises in the matter.

On top of that, I have constant conversations with people in this arena as I am in the middle of designing a workshop on creative thinking.

I was informed about the Dunning Kruger Effect which helped me to navigate through the challenges of being consistent, along with harnessing a process which allowed me to write daily.

Every new path that you aspire to take has a honeymoon phase.

You are filled with enthusiasm, have new ideas flooding in and are also able to execute them without any resistance.

The zest of serendipity keeps you going.

But motivation and excitement don’t last long.

You run out of ideas, and the feeling of doing something new fades away.

You are no longer a passionate lover who is ready to do anything that takes to succeed in your tasks.

You fall into the valley of despair.

Don’t worry, you are not alone in feeling like this.

The good news is, there is a way to overcome this challenge, where you not only start doing things passionately again but would be able to bring in the flow state to your work.

These are the points that would help you to navigate through the slope of enlightenment.

It all starts with acceptance.

Acceptance of not knowing brings humility.

A pearl of wisdom to look for solutions.

System

I think to be consistent in any pursuit you need to have a system. It feels against the creativity at first, but trust me it is the best way to go about it.

Creative people I know, who are successfully doing creative things all their life assign time for their creation.

Now there are two ways to go about it.

One, you can follow a schedule, like a timetable.

OR. You can decide to spend a certain amount of time on each of the creative tasks.

For example — I will write for 4 hours, work on my video for 3hrs and spend 2 hours watching a film.

Learn

Moreover, it is important to have a steady stream of inputs about the topic you are dealing with.

This can be a mentorship, reading books and blogs from your favourite authors on the subject.

It helps you keep in the game by getting raw material for the content you want to produce.

Perfection is a creativity killer

Let go of the concept of perfection and imperfection.

Be better by 1% every day (Learned from James Clear).

Remember, You are not going to see the plant tomorrow if you sow the seed today.

Things take time to grow and flourish.

Keep watering every day.

The outcome will be perfectly imperfect.

Honesty

When it comes to writing and creating content, Many creators think about doing it in bulk.

One of my friends suggested that I should be using ChatGPT to mint out articles every day on a scale.

I am completely against doing so.

AI is a good tool to be used for logical things, lists, codes etc.

But when it comes to reaching people with authenticity it can’t go that far.

Do you know why? — because it is not honest.

A generic text that is average of what thousands of people have already written lacks a personal touch.

Let me put it this way —

You have two images; one what you think people should think about you, and one what you really are.

The pretentious image is just a facet of borrowed aspirations.

Deeper connections happen with your real image.

To give you an example, your post on Instagram with your new Lamborghini Urus is not about you, it is about the toy.

And the post where you say something to add value to someone\’s life is all about you and the person you are talking to.

Putting your neck out and being honest while constructing the content from your thoughts has a meaningful and deeper impact.
