Seven ways to find your pursuits without waiting for motivation to strike

IF YOUR WORK NEEDS MOTIVATION QUIT IT

Let your work bloom like a flower.

By Daigo

Motivation is just another excuse for not doing the job.

You don’t need the motivation to get things done, you need a reason, a good valid reason why you are doing the things you are doing.

A flower doesn’t need the motivation to bloom. It blooms.

It neither has a purpose attached to it.

It doesn’t bloom to inspire you.

It blooms, even if no one is watching it.

Bloom.

When you are stuck with something and waiting for the motivation gods to bless you with zest to work, wait for a moment and ponder on the nature of nature.

Said so, it can be difficult to flow effortlessly if you are on a job you hate.

I love to write and wake up every day to write.

I don’t need motivation for that, nor do I need to ponder upon bloomy things.

But if was put in a cubical doing office work, I would have asked for death rather than motivation.

“I am not bad, I’m just drawn that way,” — Jessica Rabbit (Who framed Roger Rabbit)

Motivation can push you to take two heavy steps.

Motivation is a trap built for people to do things they are not willing to do.

Encouragement is a different story, but motivation, I am damn sure about it.

But when you love what you do, you are aligned with your self and things happen on their own.

Naturally.

Even if no one is watching you, even if you don’t want to show it to the world.

It just happens, like the flower blooms.

So how do you find the pursuit of your life and embrace it with grace?

Ikigai

Ikigai is a Japanese concept to find what you love to do and what people would want to consume, or pay for.

The book is famous and chances are bright that you have already read it.

What I want to add though is the outcome of the confluence of what you love and what you can get paid for could be something you have never thought about.

We tend to bind ourselves to the constraints of the mainstream.

Be open to the possibility that your crazy idea might be needed in this world.

Sane people are people who have forgotten their madness, maybe you can remind them of their own craziness.

Impermanence

Accept the transient nature of life.

Search for the purpose in the present moment.

“What you are looking for is looking for you” — Rumi

Be still and an urge to create will arise.

Acknowledge it.

It is the unknown knocking on the door to materialise something using you as a medium.

The Power of Empathy

Your work can change this world not with passion, but compassion.

Understanding and sharing the feelings of others builds a strong spiritual bond.

To know what we are collectively going through is a deeper understanding of human experience.

This sense of empathy will guide you to help and serve others.

Your service will be rewarded.

Intention

Live with intention.

Before that have clarity about your intention.

Don’t be shy about your intentions.

It might be monetary, self-fulfilling, contentment or whatever.

We are humans, we do things for a reason.

Unlike we have better goals than eating and excreting.

Moreover, be mindful of your intentions.

No matter how small your actions are. It can be picking up a glass of water.

Being mindful brings clarity about our intentions in life.

Let Go

The very need for motivation comes from the need to be perfect or excel in some things.

Work, especially creative work takes its own course and finds its own way to display.

Be the part of this play. Let go of everything else.

Liberate yourself from the material and physical attachments.

To be attached to the outcome is burdensome.

Creating with a sense of freedom and peace allows the energies to manifest and materialise.

Finding Meaning in Service

Let your being be the service for others.

There are too many voices in the world, very few ears.

Listen.

The sounds around you.

Carefully engage in the act of active listening to understand what the person in front of you is saying.

He holds the key to your pursuit.

His agony, his suffering, his pain and its key is the key to your pursuit.

Be genuine there, present to relieve the person from his pain.

Dedicating ourselves to the betterment of others can provide profound meaning and fulfilment in life.

Embracing the Unknown

The past and future are fantasies.

Both of them are not happening right now.

Nothing is happening right now. You only think that something is happening.

Embrace this unknown.

Surrender to the flow of life. You will have a deeper spiritual connection with yourself and others.

Universe.

You will grow beyond the boundaries of your own physical and mental limitations.

Bloom.
